Një manifestim Dadaist te Hani
The installation by Swiss artists Sophie Nadler and Etienne Eisele is a project specifically dedicated to Hani i 2 Robertëve and the city of Prishtina.
Two events with temporal trajectories, one spanning a century, the other occurring more recently, three years ago, constitute the motivating intrigue that brought the Zurich artist couple back to Prishtina to realize the intervention titled “I am the menu” at Hani.
The first trajectory is related to the Manifesta 14 Biennial, which opened in July 2022 in Prishtina, where Sophie Nadler with Etienne Eisele, as well as many artists and guests of the Biennial, happily spent time at Hani i 2 Robertëve.
Although it was not part of the Manifesta programs, Hani had, in addition to the welcome and warmth, the fame and aura of a local café-gallery with historical significance, because for three decades, since 1989 when it was founded, it also served as a temple of resistance art, where over 200 exhibitions and other cultural events have been organized.
With the second trajectory, the century-old one, Hani i 2 Robertëve is associated with a café-gallery that is perhaps the most famous in the world: “Cabaret Voltaire”. The gallery is located in Zurich, in which the avant-garde artistic movement was founded, the most extravagant, not to say the most provocative and crazy among the modernist movements that expanded and affirmed the freedom of artistic expression.
It is interesting that among the founders of “Cabaret Voltaire”, which is still active today, a couple of Swiss artists stand out, Sophie Taeuber Arp and her partner Hans Arp.
Today's Sophie, with her partner Etienne, has created a subtle rearrangement of the Hani space, recalling the principles and practices of Dadaist art.
You can find a brief description in their text, which also includes their admiring observations about the Hani and Prishtina.
